In order to simplify storyboard sketching for the dome, we've begun to experiment with fast options for performing dome transformations from sketched images. See below for trial images--framed images formatted in dome master format. In this example, framed images in the left column are transformed into dome master images in the right column. In the upper right image, a dome master view of a field of spheres (rendered by Andrew Britt) is superimposed on a transformed 2D grid. Comparing the receding lines of the cube field to the transformed lines of the grid allow us to evaluate the dome master transformation.

The simplest way we've found to format a framed image as a dome master is to use the Transform:Distort tool in Photoshop, or apply the Filter:Distort:Spherize function to an image twice, in succession.
